The Art of Human Connection

Ilana McBain is an Australian contemporary pop artist whose expressive figurative works explore the complexity of human connection. Her paintings begin as digitally created compositions, where colour, form, and movement are carefully developed before being produced as museum-quality prints on canvas or archival rag paper.


This digital-first process allows McBain to refine each composition with precision while preserving the expressive qualities of painting. The final works are professionally produced using museum-grade materials designed for longevity and collector presentation.


Her work sits between abstraction and figuration. Figures dissolve into colour and gesture, suggesting the invisible threads that connect people to one another.

    Ilana McBain was a pleasure to work with on a special commission celebrating 50 years of Coast Guard Marine Services in Mooloolaba.  She produced a custom image that beautifully brought local elements to the forefront, capturing the character and spirit of the community the Coast Guard serves.

    Throughout the process, Ilana was highly collaborative and open to feedback. She actively incorporated suggestions from members to ensure the final artwork was both relevant and meaningful to those involved. Her willingness to listen, refine ideas, and remain accessible throughout the commissioning process made the experience smooth and enjoyable.
