A Little Heat Gold— Contemporary Chilli Art Print

I took the original photograph of these chillies at my daughter’s place. They were simply sitting there, but the colour immediately caught my attention.

I loved how fresh they looked — all those beautiful greens together, the shine on their skins, the shapes and stems going in different directions, and then that single red chilli adding a completely different energy.

There is something wonderful about chillies. They look so fresh and innocent, yet you know there is heat hiding inside them.

That contrast was what interested me.

I wanted to keep the vibrancy of the photograph but simplify it into my own visual language — strong shapes, exaggerated colour and the shadows becoming part of the composition. For me, these works are about the beauty we can find in very ordinary things. A bowl of chillies sitting in my daughter’s home became something worth stopping for.

A little touch of spice is what makes life more interesting.
