I painted Crimson Perspective around the idea that the way we see something can completely change how it feels.
The red lenses became the starting point for me. They are bold, almost defiant, and they immediately change the mood of the face behind them. Then I added the water cutting across the image because I liked the tension between composure and disruption — she is completely still while everything around her is moving.
That contrast is what interested me most.
There are times in life when nothing outside us has really changed, but our perspective has. We look at the same person, the same situation, the same version of ourselves, and suddenly we see it differently.
I wanted this piece to feel confident, clear and slightly mysterious. She is not reacting to the splash. She is simply looking straight through it.
Dimension: 130 x 130 cm
For me, Crimson Perspective is about that shift in vision — the moment when you realise that sometimes the thing that needs to change is not the world in front of you, but the way you are looking at it.
