Girlfriends on the Beach is a celebration of friendship, summer and the easy familiarity of people who know one another well.

Three women sit closely together against a bright coastal backdrop, connected by gesture, colour and the relaxed rhythm of a day by the sea. Their individuality remains distinct, but the composition is held together by a sense of closeness — the kind of companionship that needs little explanation.

Bold reds, yellows, oranges and soft coastal blues give the work an immediate energy, while the simplified forms allow the personalities and relationships between the figures to take centre stage.

There is nostalgia in the scene, but also confidence and humour. Girlfriends on the Beach captures the warmth of shared time, friendship and the pleasure of being entirely at ease in someone else’s company.
