Grouch didn’t enjoy small talk when there was work to be done. She wasn’t interested in pretending everything was fine when it wasn’t. And she certainly didn’t see the point in smiling simply because someone expected her to.

But beneath her gruff exterior lived something unexpected. Honesty.

Grouch understood that being pleasant and being genuine are not always the same thing. She believed that kindness without honesty is fragile, and that real connection begins when we allow ourselves to be authentic.

Over time, the flock learned something important. When Grouch gave a compliment, she meant it. When she offered help, it was sincere. When she stood beside you, she stayed.
