There is a moment, mid-arc, when the whale is neither rising nor falling — only turning. I wanted to capture that moment because it’s the one most of us skip past: the hinge point between one direction and the next.

The turning isn’t a mistake or a delay. It’s where the whale decides.

The Turning is a reminder that change doesn’t need to be violent to be complete, sometimes it’s just a long, graceful curve toward somewhere new.

A 12-colour fine art printing process captures the depth, tonal variation and strong colour that are central to Ilana McBain’s work. The acid-free, FSC-certified paper and fade-resistant inks are selected for lasting quality.
